Soul Band, Dance Band, Funk Band!
BridgeCity Soul - Not just the brainchild of Ramsey Embick, but the dream of everyone in the band. Soul Music and R&B (Rhythm and Blues) must rank among the most unique of American musics with it's pulsing beat, soul stirring vocals, what's not to love!
BridgeCity Soul has 6 members all steeped in this idiom. Singers Stiletto Rose and Eddie Wright may not be old hat to the Portland R&B scene but they both have been singing gospel in church since they could walk. Johnnie Russell on drums, on the other hand, is a force of nature having performed with Andy Stokes, Bart Fergusen and the great Linda Hornbuckle. Our 3rd lead vocalist and guitar player Tony Carr is a veteran of Mt. Hood Community College and Portland music scene, and hasn’t stopped performing since he joined his first band in high school. Mike Tate on bass holding down the Pocket is a long time pillar of the Portland area Gospel and Funk scene. Leader Ramsey Embick on piano, B3 and synthesizer, Oregon native, started his first soul band in high school and hasn’t looked back. Band leader for the Pointer Sisters in the 80’s, (Ramsey spent 15 years in Los Angeles) working with Jennifer Holiday, Gladys Knight, The Whispers, Gerald Levert, Rene & Angela, Michael Jackson,The Commodores, Bobby Womack, anyway, you get the idea. . .The point is to ignite a program of music that people love because this is the music that we all love.
